I like the quote by David Frost. He said, “Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.” I have attended a number of seminars in the past that amplified the pursuit of success above anything else. They talked about personal grooming, the way you speak, positioning yourself in the minds of the prospect, and all the good stuff. After years of testing the concepts I came to the conclusion that to achieve your dreams in life, you first have to know what you really want, what you are good at, your natural talents, then develop and sharpen your skills in that area, give value to your clients or customers, and the rest will follow. Jim Rohn captured it well when he said, “Success is what you attract by the person you become.” In other words, you first become and then you attract. People are wasting a lot of time and energy focusing on the external rather than focusing their energy on developing themselves into becoming. Wasted energy is wasted time, resources and life as a whole. W. Clement Stone said, “Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.” Where are you spending your energy? Are you spending it with the wrong people who may be nice but not going anywhere? Are you wasting your resources on things that appear great but are not adding value? Are you wasting your time on how bad the economy is performing and proposed changes? What are you doing with the time you have? When you aim your energy, ensure that you are in complete harmony in thought, word and deed. “Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well”, says Mahatma Gandhi. You need to aim higher and remain focused on what you want. Control the frequent vacillation between what you want and what you don’t want. Paul Allen said, “You need to aim beyond what you are capable of. You must develop a complete disregard for where your abilities end. Try to do things that you're incapable of... If you think you're incapable of running a company, make that your aim... Make your vision of where you want to be a reality. Nothing is impossible.” What a great way to aim your energy. Begin to dream beyond your needs to dreaming to attain your wants. When you do that you begin to stretch your imagination to achieve more. “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson When you align your energy with your focus on what you want, you begin to achieve results. Alignment of your beliefs, thoughts, mindset, feelings, attitudes, behavior and actions will support and set you up for achieving massively. Take a piece of paper and identify all the things you have been focusing on lately. Are they leading you to where you want to go? What can you stop, start or continue to enable your results and move the needle towards fulfilling your potential? Michelangelo said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” To achieve massive success is to aim high, dream large, take massive action consistently until you achieve all that you have planned. While Carl von Clausewitz captures it this way, “Pursue one great decisive aim with force and determination.” See you at the pinnacle of success!
