In my seminars I am fond of telling the participants to “Dream so big that it will take God to make it happen.” This is to say that dreams that are big can frighten you and inspire you to ask for help from a source bigger than yourself. Dreams that don’t scare you are not dreams at all.
It takes the same amount of time and effort to dream big or to dream small, so why not go for the big one? We tend to dream small dreams because of the fear of what people might say when things don’t go the way we have envisaged. And so what! If it were easy, that dream would have been accomplished a long time ago. Don’t be afraid to dream big dreams, because you have been wired with all the necessary requirements to fulfill those dreams. So go for it. Don’t hold back your big dreams any longer. Time is of the essence, so throw away the excess baggage and focus on your dreams. Recently, I got a text message inviting me to join my schoolmates on a group chat platform that had been created to connect with old friends. Within a day or two, high school classmates I had not heard from for a while started showing up on the platform. It was a great reunion and a sad one at the same time. As we started checking on this person and that person, we realized that a number had passed on, including my best friend from those days. It had been my intention to find this friend and connect with him once more but now he was gone. Life is too short to sit and wait for things to happen or to change before you dream big and pursue your dreams. You have a dream and a goal to accomplish. Why not go for it instead of waiting for the right time? There is no “right time” and there is no “one day.” Every single day you are above ground is a gift and an opportunity to pursue your dreams with gusto. I have relatives and friends who keep saying, One day I will do this or that and my counsel has always been there is no “one day.” I used to think there was till I realized that it is an illusion and a fallacy to think that way. People who say “one day” are just making excuses and are afraid to get started. “One day” begins with today, tomorrow, and the next. “One day” is a summation of every single day. Why not focus and do what you need to do today? Life is not a dress rehearsal and you don’t get a restart when you get to the finish line in your life. Start dreaming big today and act on your dreams because the payoff is all worth the dream. Don’t settle for less — go for the large dreams. You may ask why you should dream big when you may be falling short and feeling discouraged. The answer to your dilemma can be found in the words of Confucius: “If you shoot for the stars and hit the moon, it’s OK. But you’ve got to shoot for something. A lot of people don’t even shoot.” Dreaming big will push you to heights you might not have thought about. It stretches you to the limit to bring the best out of you. Reaching for the stars positions you for the greater things life has to offer.
