Focusing on one thing at a time is the key to success. Research shows that multi-tasking does not work, nor does it produce great results. Alexander Graham Bell said, “Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus.” There is significant power when you focus on one thing at a time. Imagine how much you would have achieved if you had concentrated all your energy on achieving your goals? We get involved in too many things and end up not doing any successfully. I know people who are doing too many things at the same time and as a result are doing poorly financially. When you focus all your time and energy into doing one thing well before you tackle another, you will have the results to show for it. You need to focus on one thing, do that one thing very well, and make that one thing the main thing. When you look at successful companies, they focus on doing one thing and doing it well before diversifying into complementary products and services. I have seen people doing a number of businesses not complementary in any form or shape and performing very poorly. Let this not be you! "One of my mantras is: focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex. You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end, because once you get there you can move mountains." – Steve Jobs When you aim at something, and I take it that your aim is to use your inner powers to achieve all that you were built for, that focused aim will help you through the tough times. Its time you aim your energy and resources in what you want the most in life. When you do you will have the results to show for it. I had a friend who got carried away with various business opportunities that showed up on his radar all at the same time. My friend thought the best thing to do was to tackle and invest in all the opportunities for fear that the opportunity would never show up again. He used all his resources and borrowed more money to invest in the various projects. He did not have the systems, people, and plans to support all these ventures. In the end he lost most of his money and was in debt for a very long time. Stop aiming at doing so many things all at the same time. When you operate on a creative plane you need not be afraid of lost opportunities. There are more than enough opportunities around you so focus and aim at the right opportunities, and use your creativity to develop and expand those opportunities. Aim at providing and bringing value to the marketplace. Aim at developing your skills so that you become more valuable to your company, your boss, and the marketplace. I constantly remind participants in my seminars that there is nothing called job security. The only security you have is the value you bring to the marketplace and the benefits that result from that.
