Talk is cheap!

Take your mind back to all the things you have said you will do to achieve great success. Think about the goals you have set and promised yourself you will take action on. Imagine if you kept all those promises you made to yourself and to others. What a great life you would be living right now! Talk is cheap indeed. It is very easy to say ‘I will do this or that’, but actually doing it is the key. Many businesses have been built in the air by just talking about them. I have a relative who kept saying, ‘I will do this and that for my mother one day when I make the money.’ Every year he said the same thing. I believe he meant well but never backed his promises up, then the mother passed away. One of the regrets this relative had to live with is the pain of not fulfilling his promise to his mother. I knew he was struggling with this and continues to struggle because he told me that his biggest regret was not fulfilling his promise to his mother. Talk is cheap and whoever came up with this statement is accurate and reflects the position of millions of people around the globe. Words carry a lot of weight when we use those words to fulfill all the things we want to do. When you get into the habit of saying things that you will not actualize, it will come to a point when you begin to doubt your own words and, most importantly, you begin to lose credibility with people because you did not keep your promises.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I like the words of Ernest Agyeman Yeboah who said and I paraphrase, ‘Until you press the switch to turn on the light in your room, you will always have the light, but still live in darkness.’ This means you can be well intentioned but until you back what you want to do with action, or until you do what you say you will do, it is wasted effort. Words become powerful and laser guided when followed up with actions. The phrase ‘action speaks louder than words’ are so true. Get into the habit of taking action and you will begin to trust yourself with your promises and the promises you make to others. Your credibility hinges on backing your words with action. You devalue yourself by not keeping your promises. Use your words to inspire you and others into action. Get into the habit of following through what you have promised and watch your life turn around for the better. I have come across businesses that have lost out to peers because they did not keep their promise or deliver on their promises.

I had associate consultants I worked with in the past who I don’t work with anymore. The reasons were that they never kept their word on delivering reports on time for me to meet my commitment to my clients. I have had trainers who never put in the time to prepare quality presentations to deliver first class training even though they promised to do so in the first place. Keeping your word is the mark of a professional.

Bringing value to the marketplace is not only about your expertise and honing down your expertise, but also delivering on your promises. It will be great to develop the reputation of doing what you said you would do. Let people begin to have the confidence in you that when you say something you deliver on all your promises. Businesses have been destroyed because of broken promises. Relationships have gone down the drain because of not following through on promises, lives have been damaged because of excuses and more excuses for not following through with promised actions. If you are really hungry to succeed and have massive success, and I believe you want to do that, just keep your promises, will you? Are you hungry for massive success? It all begins with fulfilling your promises to yourself and others in your network. Don’t be known as the person who is just a talker but as someone who says something and follows through until every bit of the agreement is fulfilled. Make it a point to develop the discipline of taking action and keeping your side of the bargain. When you change, your results will change.

See you at the pinnacle of success!
