Someone defined fear as false evidence appearing real. There is a barrier of fear that always shows its ugly head when you want to accomplish something great. This barrier terrorizes you now and again when you want to move. The barrier of fear reminds you of your past failures, brings to mind your shortfalls, and reminds you of the thousands of dollars you have lost as a result of businesses or deals you entered into. For some it’s a relationship that went soar and they never want to enter into another relationship. I knew of a lady who had a difficult life because of the divorce her parents went through. This lady never wanted to have a man in her life because of what she saw the mother go through and concluded that all men are the same. No matter how hard I tried to help her understand that there are still good men in this world, she never bought it and chose to remain single. Some others have failed in a number of businesses and never want to go into any other business for themselves.
“Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” – George Addair Fear has kept millions of people from following their dreams and fulfilling their potential. You are where you are because of the fears you allowed to hold you down for so long. I attended a speaker’s seminar organized by Les Brown, the world renowned motivational speaker. Les is in a class of his own when it comes to motivating and inspiring people to take action. Les talked about how for many years he kept postponing getting into the speaking business because of fear. He wasted many years of his life because he listened to his fears until he had to break through the barrier of fear. I believe Les had to get fired from a job before he fully explored the area of professional speaking. Les now speaks to millions around the world regarding breaking through the fear and doing what you are required to do. I wanted to write a book for a very long time. Several people have asked me about putting my thoughts in a book and each time I convinced myself that the time was not right. Fear also kept me from venturing out to do what I love to do, which is inspiring millions around the globe with my aspirations, until I finally had to deal with that fear. As you read this chapter, you may be held by fear, refusing to start that project because you are afraid of what might happen if it doesn’t work; you have always wanted to ask your boss for a raise but are afraid to ask in case he says no. Fear is your greatest enemy and the only way to conquer your fear is to do what you are afraid of. You have to begin to do things in spite of the fear. Fear will not disappear with inaction; you manage fear by doing the things you are afraid of. Fear is stopping you from achieving the success you want; the fear of success or failure is holding you back and time is running out. You have a finite amount of time to live your dreams here on planet earth. Each passing day that you procrastinate because of fear, you are wasting your life. Why not start anyway, because you will quickly find out if you are in the right thing or not. It takes courage to do the things you want to do and you have that courage. Your successes to-date are as a result of your courage. All that you have achieved is as a result of all the fears you have managed to work through. It will take the same discipline and belief to conquer more fears and tackle the bigger challenges in order to have the massive results you are looking for. Whatever you require to conquer your fears is already in you. All the obstacles and challenges you went through, and may still be going through, have prepared you to deal with any form of fear. Stop telling yourself that you don’t have it and stop magnifying obstacles in your mind. Do it afraid and just do it! Keep in mind that courage isn't the absence of fear, it's the ability to keep pressing on despite the presence of fear. Your solution to any fear is simply to do the thing you fear. Fear dissipates when you do the thing you fear. Start taking the necessary steps toward your goals even if it appears to be small and insignificant in nature. Actions, like pictures, are worth a thousand words. Sir Isaac Newton's principle states a "body at rest tends to remain at rest, and a body in motion tends to remain in motion," Begin at once to take the first step toward your goals, take the second and then the third, and you will be on your way to doing the things you are afraid of attempting.
