What we think we become, and true change begins with change in the mind. What change would you like to see in your job, career, family, life, health, finances, and so on?
Dr. Jack Hatkins conducted a research at the University of Tennessee. The 12 year study measured the impact of what people put into their minds. They had a control group and non-control groups listen to a five minute daily radio program, then they tested them. The results were: if there were four negative items in the five minute radio program, the listeners were 1) more depressed, 2) believed the world was a negative place to live, 3) were less likely to help others, and 4) began to believe that what they heard would actually happen to them. Five minutes of empirical research revealed so much about what we feed the mind. Five little minutes of listening to four negative things impacted them that much. Thomas Troward said, “We cannot really think in one way and act in another.” Now imagine how your life is changing and being impacted by the things you are feeding your mind. What are you listening to, what are you reading, what are you watching, what mental diet are you on? Whatever you are feeding your mind is shaping you into the person you want to be and the person you don’t want to be. If you want to change the results, change what you are putting into your mind. As within, so without! “The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thought.” – Albert Einstein The quality of your results on the outside is a reflection of the quality of the thinking on the inside. The words that come out of your mouth are a reflection of your inward condition. You can never be any different from who you are on the inside. Great results begin from the inside out! Here is great advice from Benjamin Disraeli: “Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.” Start the journey of thinking on purpose, focus and think about the life you have imagined, put your desires front and center, think about your goals every single day, and write down what you want every morning. Once a week write the movie of your life, and carry a goal card to read aloud to yourself several times during the day. When you do these things it will help you think on purpose. Your results on the outside are a reflection of the quality of the thinking! You have the capacity to think on purpose rather than allowing negative thoughts to dominate your thinking. Andrew Young puts it succinctly, “I have about concluded that wealth is a state of mind, and that anyone can acquire a wealthy state of mind by thinking rich thoughts.” Limited thinking produces limited results. You will not be able to resolve the current challenges of your life with the same level of thinking. Your destiny will come from your thinking. Psychologists have echoed this. The only things affecting the direction of your life are your thoughts and its implications. As you think, so you are! What you think about most of the time will create your reality. Marcus Aurelius said, “Our life is what our thoughts make it.” Think on purpose and change your life!
