To focus means to put your attention on something. Focus is the path to all thinking: perception, memory, learning, reasoning, problem solving, strategy, leading, planning and decision making. Without the right focus, all aspects of your ability to think will suffer. Without focus, you will not be able to do your job effectively, let alone get the results you are aiming for. We tend to waste a lot of time without focus. Your energy will flow where your attention goes. It has always been this way and it will always be that way in the future. Where your energy goes, your attention follows! It is very important to choose your thoughts and the words you use carefully.
There are people who focus on negative things and say things to support that. People say things like, ‘the economy is bad’, ‘I have this feeling that I will lose my job’, ‘the newscaster talked about people dying of cancer and I am afraid I will get cancer’, ‘life is very tough these days’, ‘I am going crazy’, and so forth. You will attract these negative things into your life because you are focusing on these things rather than focusing on the things you want in your life.
I have become fascinated with the subject of thought. I have invested significant financial resources to continue to learn more about the mind, the subject of thought, and the impact of thought on the trajectory of life. Here is what I found out – Take care of your thoughts, think about what you are thinking about, allow your thoughts to imagine the future you want to design; use your imagination to create the future you want to see, replace negative thoughts immediately they crawl into your mind. Your thoughts hold the key to achieving massive wealth, great health, peace and joy, and all the good stuff. Watch what you allow into your mind and be careful what you give your attention to. Thoughts are things!
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.” – Helen Keller
Be careful what you focus on. Many years ago I was conducting interviews for a leadership position. I was then working for an international consulting firm and one of my responsibilities was executive recruitment. I had one gentleman who was literally begging me to give him the job. I inquired why he wanted this job so badly to which he responded, “Anytime my boss passes by my desk he always says something like ‘someone is going to be fired”. This gentleman had been focusing on the statement for a while. I believe that because of his focus, he finally got fired instead of focusing on the positive and working on improving his performance. Focus your thoughts and allow it to expand into what you want.
See you at the pinnacle of success!
